Michelle Roberts - the Creative Marketer

Michelle is the wonderfully talented founder of new business the Creative Marketer – a design and marketing company based in Devon. She is passionate about helping small to medium businesses create campaigns that really make a difference.

1. When and how did you get started in your business?

I started the business in January 2015. After spending nearly 20 years working in marketing and design I decided I would like to help businesses directly. It’s been a bit scary at times I’ll admit, but I really wanted to help businesses improve their marketing communications across all channels so they resonated with their target audience.

2. What has been your most satisfying moment in business so far?The Creative Marketer

To be honest the whole of the last year has been hugely satisfying. Realising that I can do this and that I have helped both local and national businesses achieve their goals is an amazing feeling.

Even over the last year the business has evolved and is continuing to do so and I can’t wait to see where it is this time next year!

3. What do you enjoy most about your work?

No two days are the same. I am always faced with new ideas, marketing campaigns, challenges and deadlines which certainly keeps me on my toes.

Meeting new businesses and the people within them has been great as well. I have met so many interesting and inspiring people that I wouldn’t have done otherwise.

The Creative Marketer4. Where do you see your business in 5 years?

I would like to think that in five years’ time the business is competently running itself allowing me to take a more holistic view and continue to grow the Creative Marketer. Appointing staff will allow me to share my expertise with up and coming marketers and designers entering the business.

5. What advice do you have for people thinking about starting their own business?

Just do it! Don’t think about it too much. Yes, you need a plan and yes, you need to have the research to prove there is a market requirement for your product or service, but you can over think things.

And Just For Fun…

6. When was the last time you felt nervous?

The last networking event I attended. It is vital for the business that I mix with other businesses, however this really pushes me out of my comfort zone!

7. If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of another person (just for one day), who would it be and why?

I am a big fan of Jane Austin so it would be amazing to experience her lifestyle for just one day.

8. If you could witness any event in the past, present or future what would it be?

I would really loved to have been at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert in 1992.

9. What have you learned in the last week?

I have just finished reading (or listening to) E-Myth Mastery by Michael E Gerber and the seven essential disciplines for building a world class company. This book has really helped me understand and focus on working ‘on’ my business, not ‘in’ my business.

10. What is your favourite quote?

Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it!
