As well as a popular Pin-Up Model, Edinburgh based, Kelly Bakewell is a Personal Trainer, Hairstylist, Agent for the Designer Mr Pearl and Musclecake Ambassador. She has a dedicated fan base on social media who love her vintage style and glamour.

1. How and when did you become a Pin-Up Model?

I have always loved old Hollywood and the ideals of the 50’s. I have always liked to make an effort in the way that I dress and present myself. Not for anyone else, just for me. I think that is the best way to do anything…for yourself.

I started modelling about ‘cough’ years ago. I had been asked to model a range of vintage swimwear through a friend of a friend and it just went from there. I don’t model so much now unless the concept really interests me.

2. Can you tell us a bit more about your other work as an agent for the Designer Mr Pearl and a Musclecake Ambassador?

Well,  you know when you just have one of those…NO WAY moments. Working with Mr Pearl was mine. I met him through a mutual friend for a meal and I ended up being a little shy because I had followed his work for so long. I found out later on from him that I had made him shy too! I am so lucky to call Mr Pearl a friend. He is a truly wonderful, gifted man. The attention to detail in his work is mind blowing.

came about from my obvious love of cake and the gym. I try in my social media to inspire and motivate as much as I can and lets be realistic…who wants to give up cake? Its all about if you want it then go for it, just moderate it a little.

3. Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far?

That’s a tough one. I tried to not be influenced too much by other people as I really wanted to find out who I am. I have to say early on in life probably Gwen Stefani. Her dress sense and attitude spoke so much to me growing up in a small town in the North East. It’s not the most diverse of places but it did help me with the confidence to express myself. I’ve always admired Dita Von Teese, always beautifully presented and she works so hard! I was lucky enough to meet her and chat backstage recently in Paris and she was off to America the next day with only four days off before the next big show!

4. Can you tell us about your favourite photo shoot to date?

I did a photo shoot with Kamila Burzymowska for Skin Deep magazine (The UK’s best selling tattoo magazine). It was so much fun… Her use of colours was insane and it was very typically pin-up in an awesome vintage styled
café in Edinburgh.

5. Where do you see Kelly Bakewell in 5 years time?

Wow that’s a tough one! I try not to plan too far ahead, I always think you close yourself off to new opportunities that way. I’ll have absolutely have been to a lot of new countries….. I have lots of things to see!

And just for fun…

1. How many tattoos do you have and which one is your favourite?

Hmmm well we pretty much count full sleeves as one tattoo each so two full sleeves, probably over ten all together. My cat at the top of my victorian arm is probably my favourite. My amazing friend Lianne did it and she loves cats! The worst spot to be tattooed for me was the ditch of the elbow. No one is even allowed to look at it haha.

2. An asteroid is going to wipe out human kind in 24 hours. What do you do on your last day on earth?

I’d want to say spend it with my loved ones…kind of cliché though. I’d probably grab all my friends and head off to find some good food, good music and good drink. Ain’t no party like an apocalypse party. (Also no hangover).

3 . If you could wake up in the body of another person (just for one day} who would it be and why?

If we are talking from any moment in history, I would probably go back and be Marilyn (Monroe). I would love to have known exactly what was going on.

4. What is your favourite quote?

‘Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine’ – Elvis.

5. Can you tell us something about yourself that might surprise us?

I worked as a Senior Financial Planning Manager for five years.
